Cadbury linked to salmonella outbreak

CadburyThe UK Health Protection Agency has said contaminated Cadbury’s chocolate was the most likely cause of a recent salmonella outbreak.

36 of 56 cases from March to July could be linked to Cadbury products, despite the firm having claimed that traces of salmonella in its products were ‘minute’ and the recent product recall was purely precautionary, with levels being “significantly below the standard that would be any health problem”.

According to the BBC, Cadbury has “has agreed to improve its testing procedures” and says “a cleaning operation is up and running at the plant”.

Call me old fashioned, but as a consumer, I’d kinda assumed that a major chocolate manufacturer would be making a little effort to keep its factories clean anyway…

Ritter Sport Peppermint

You may remember last month I raved about Ritter Sport Cappuccino. So it goes without saying that when I saw Cappuccino’s sister, Peppermint in the local shop, I just had to try it.

The size and shape of this are exactly the same as the Cappuccino bar – a thick 100g square slab divided into bite-size chunks. Unlike the Cappuccino verson though, this one is dark chocolate.

The filling is a peppermint fondant, giving an effect not dissimilar to Fry’s Peppermint Cream… except this is a whole lot nicer!

The peppermint is strong and tangy without being overpowering, and perfectly compliments the dark chocolate. The overall effect is simply delicious, and when chilled on a hot day like today (30°C here in London today!), is deliciously refreshing.

Go out and find some of this. Now.

Breakfast cereals contain more sugar than chocolate

According to this article in The Independent, many breakfast cereals ‘contain just as much sugar as a chocolate bar’.

This is obviously a very serious problem, for which there is only one solution. Chocolate for breakfast.

Chocolate and lingerie

News of  a new chocolate bar caught my attention today. It could be said that chocolate claims 90% of my attention anyway, but we don’t need to go into that.

The first thing that made me go “ooh!” was the name – Wonder Bar. A nice play on words and a sure sign of success in my opinion. Lets face it, who is going to argue against the fact that the wonderful piece of lingerie that is Wonder Bra is one of the best inventions ever??

According to  Courant.com
The
Wonder Bar, comes in  pink-and-white packaging and is sold by a New Jersey company called Ecco Bella.

“This 1.75-ounce slab of genius was on display this week at the Fancy Food Show, a massive expo for companies selling the tasty victuals that wind up in specialty stores worldwide.”

….But the best bit – “It’s chocolate that is specially formulated to help women alleviate the symptoms of PMS.”

Now this got me thinking – Doesn’t all chocolate do that? Well, apparently the answer is yes and no.

The science bit….Cravings for chocolate are due to low blood sugar levels thought to be produced by low progesterone and high oestrogen levels.

Consuming chocolate is a temporary measure. This will raise the blood sugar level which will result in eliminating the cravings, but only for a few hours and then the cravings come back and start all over again.

So, the cravings will come back again a few hours later? And the problem with that again is…..?

It’s true there are many sensible ways to alleviate the symptoms of PMT (pre menstrual tension) / PMS ( pre menstrual shopping) but my advice to any guys reading this who claim to suffer the brunt on a monthly basis is buy her chocolate! Not just once a month either, oh no! Buy her chocolate every day (best to be on the safe side eh guys?) In fact, for a truly harmonious life and relationship, shower the lady with Wonder Bars and Wonder Bras. Chocolate and lingerie; you know it makes sense.

…And so, back to the Wonder Bar which is described as delicious Swiss chocolate, rose oil, herbs and soy – where can I  purchase such a bar? I need some NOW…purely for reviewing purposes you understand.
