This one is a work of art. Underneath this unassuming wrapper lies a masterpiece carved in chocolate. Upon opening it, I wasn’t sure whether to eat it or hang it on my wall.
Actually, that’s not entirely true – I’m an experienced chocolate eater and knew exactly where to put this. But the fact remains, it’s still a marvel of chocolateering, and the rather plain foil wrapper doesn’t do justice to what’s inside.

Guylian Dark Orange is divided into four large chunks, each of which has the Guylian trademark sea shell related design embossed on it. The bar is generously filled with a tangy orange creme.
According to their web site, the sea shell motifs are based on a traditional Belgian pastry sold at the seaside in summer. Guylian introduced them because they found their existing chocolates were mainly selling in the winter months and needed something to boost summer sales.

I’ve always loved the look of Guylian chocolates. The surface is dark and glossy with the shells themselves having a white chocolate effect. The designs are intricate and almost look as though they’ve been carved out of some chocolatey marble.
The filling is deliciously tangy and orangey, and there’s lots of it. I’ve always loved soft centres, and this is just like the orange cremes in an expensive box of chocolates in a convenient bar.
Overall, this is 38g of chocolate heaven. Not that you’d know it from the wrapper.
Here’s another freakish Hallowe’en project for the brave chocaholic.
As far as we can tell, this cockroach cake is not made from real cockroaches, but there’s no recipe given, so we can’t be sure.
If this is a bit much, we suggest you try our very own Dalek Cake instead. Not only is it less scary, but we can also guarantee it contains no cockroaches.

If you’re a regular Chocablog reader, you may know I’m a big fan of Ritter Sport. The Cappuccino, Peppermint and Dark varieties were all delicious.
So my reaction on finding this new addition to the range was mixture of excitement and trepidation. It sounds delicious.. but could it possibly live up to the standards set by it’s siblings?
I needn’t have worried.

Ritter Sport Chocolate Crème is another 100g square of delicious milk chocolate divided into chunks. Each chunk is filled with a thick cocoa creme.
Just like the Cappuccino variety, the first thing you notice when you open this is the aroma… or “smell”, as we common folk say. It smells like a delicious hot chocolate. And it screams “Eat me now!” (Not literally, obviously, although I think the whole talking chocolate idea has distinct possibilities.)

The chocolate creme is thicker than I had expected, but it tastes wonderful. For some reason it took me back to my childhood, but I can’t put my finger on exactly why. As far as I’m away I wasn’t attacked by a chocolate monster when I was a child.
Looking at the ingredients, the filling appears to be made of a hazelnut paste, although I can’t really detect any nuttiness. It has that comforting hot chocolate taste and melts in the mouth satisfyingly. Perfect comfort food for cold winter nights.
Go get some.
If you’re looking for something fun to make for Hallowe’en, why not try these rather cool white chocolate skulls. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such cute and tasty looking human remains.
And if you have your own ideas for chocolatey Hallowe’en snacks, let us know!
One thing’s for certain though – no pesky trick-or-treater’s are getting their hands on my chocolate this year. Oh no.
