Make your own Chocolate Spread to then create delicious Chocolate Toasted Sandwiches!

Chocolate Spread Ingredients

  • 200g dark chocolate, roughly chopped
  • 200g unsalted butter, softened
  • 400g can sweetened condensed milk

Method

Roughly chop the chocolate and place in a heatproof bowl that fits snuggly in a saucepan (this stops water spraying into the chocolate). Half-fill the saucepan with water and bring to a simmer. Place the bowl on top, making sure it doesn’t touch the water (or it will overheat). Stir with a metal spoon until melted.

Add butter and stir until well combined. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly, then stir in condensed milk until well combined. Warning: do not lick the spoon or you will have no spread left to make your sandwiches…

This chocolate spread can be stored in a jar in a refrigerator for up to three months. Delicious on slices of fresh bread, a yummy dip for fruit or to make Chocolate Toasties…!

Chocolate and Banana Toastie Ingredients (Makes 2)

  • 4 slices raisin toast or brioche
  • 1 banana, thinly sliced
  • Chocolate spread (use above recipe or you can use store-brought Nutella or similar)

Method

Generously spread one side of each piece of bread with the chocolate spread, then top each alternate piece with the sliced banana and top with the other piece of bread, spread side down, to create chocolate-banana sandwich.

Coat fry pan with spray oil and cook on low for 2 – 3 minutes until golden brown. Turn, and cook the other side for 2 – 3 minutes until golden brown (or cook in sandwich press until golden brown). Serve.

For some other Chocolate Toasties – try just the chocolate spread on its own, sliced strawberries and chocolate spread or finely chopped nuts and chocolate spread…
