3 Minute Chocolate Cake

cake_6

The 3 minute chocolate cake has been a favourite in our house for a long time. Forever, really. The Lady Of The House acquired the recipe from her mother, who in turn got it from hers, and so on.

This needs no machines – no mixers, beaters, nothing clever. Just a bowl and spoon. And a bit of arm-power. The 3 minutes part refers to how long it takes to beat it, but making it is only about another 3 minutes.

You will need:

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup self raising flour
  • 2 level tablespoons cocoa
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla essence

Method

  • Melt the butter.
  • Combine all the other ingredients.
  • Pour on the butter.
  • Beat well, with a spoon or fork, for 3 minutes.
  • Pour the mix into a lined loaf tin, and cook in a moderate oven for about 20 minutes.

My favourite time to eat this is just after it has come out of the oven, when there is still a crunch to the crust. It’s like chocolate bread.

If you leave it longer so it has completely cooled, that crunch disappears, and then its more like a traditional cake. A few cracks and craters on the top are normal, nothing to worry about. If you feel really keen they can disappear under a chocolate icing!

Aaah, the beauty of simple things in life. I’ve been making a similar one for ages now and it’s everyone’s favourite, though I must say I would prefer to devour the whole cake myself ;)

    A moderate oven means 180 C. About 360 F.
