It's a new concept here in the States. Someone would host a Chocolate Tasting Party. I'd come in, talk about chocolate, show them how to make several chocolate treats, and have the guests eat the yummy chocolates.

Is this something that you've seen in your area?

I've seen quite a few of those here in the UK. There's a couple of online chocaholic meetup groups that organize these, plus - if you're lucky and know a fair number of people interested in chocolate - you can host one yourself.
Wish you lived in the UK, yourchocolatelady :(

Will have to work out the best way to do it. Perhaps a little tour of chocolate shops in London, then go and find a cafe/pub and scoff everything... sorry, I mean a 'scientific tasting'.

I'm not sure I'd want to invite an unknown group of people into my home to eat chocolate though. :)

There's so many nice places to scoff... erm, scientifically taste chocolate - it could be a nice park, for example, or a lovely cafe. There's quite a few chocolate-themed cafes around London, we could just pick one :)
And a chocolate tour is a must! I'm always happy when I find a new chocolate shop - but I wouldn't mind if someone did the legwork for me ;)

I don't mind pinpointing some of London's best chocolatey locations, however I'm not very good at getting groups of people together - somehow they always scatter round :)
But I could plan the route of our chocotour!

I'm game, although weekends can be a bit of a nightmare for me.

Well, I suppose I could take the day off work for the tour. I've never used a sick day in my life, so it wouldn't really hurt ;)

    Hi,

I have just opened a new cookery school in York (England) called the Cooking Rooms and we have recently run a team building event for a group who wanted to learn about chocolate - tasting, tempering, making truffles - they seemed to really enjoy it. There's photos on our Facebook Group page if you want to see more.
We also have a Chocolate Masterclass hosted by Thierry Dumouchel who is not only Barry-Callebaut's UK ambassador, but has just been voted Yorkshire Life Magazine's Chef of the Year. Have a look at the details on our website http://www.thecookingrooms.com

I would love to hear any ideas for possible themed events or classes with a chocolate twist - possibly cooking with chocolate?

    Let me know.

My auntie hosted a chocolate party a few weeks ago. She loved the idea and i think all her guests did as well :)

Everything from white chocolate to dark chocolate and i think they had a chocolate fountain in the middle as well haha!

She kindly helped promote my site also Luxurychocshop

I've been to a few, if staying at home playing FIFA with a Thorntons/Milk tray box counts :P
Theres alot of amazing shops in London with virtually anything...
Saw some 'healthy' low fat Mango and Papaya chocolate earlier.

Hiya all I'm new to the site but can I just say I love discussing chocolate and the smell of it as much as anyone even though I am unable to consume it's naughty goodness.

hehehe here's a free idea for you Dom, as I fully understand where youre coming from for not wishing to invite strangers into your home.

How about during the summer (I know our weather is extremely unpredictable)but how about a chocolate picnic (lol excuse the pun, my husband just pointed that out to me), but you could have chocolate sandwiches, chocolate cakes, hot chocolate or cold chocolate drinks, and of course the good ole choocy bars.

Wish I could join you but sadly I'm lactose intolerant so cannot enjoy this sumptous, velvety, yummy, sensous, wonderful, indulgent food. I can sadly only consume the 70%+ cocoa dark type, or the false, traitorous, decieving, disguised soya type, which really isn't chocolate at all. And the dark type is not so wonderful in large quantities, it's really one of those treats that can be endured in small quantities at any one time.

feel free to use if you wish and happy scientific observations ;P

Yeah Hiya, you are absolutely right that we should arrange a certain kind of chocolate party or even a picnic of this kind will surely have a great fun and all those sumptuous, velvety, sensuous, wonderful and deep-indulgent and mind-captivating creamy chocolates which will definitely spoil your taste buds and once you will have a habit of eating this chocolate you will not enjoy anything else even more than delicious than that because you have stuck in the yummy chocolates fever indeed.

What do people think are important considerations to have a successful tasting party? Is it good to have things fairly quiet? How much chocolate? What kinds of chocolate?

Do people have suggestions on what would be important on making a tasting party a success? How much chocolate per sample? How many samples? Stuff like that.

My friends and I get together for tasting parties. I'm hoping to win the Vosges truffle collection at SALE.com. I love Vosges but those truffles are expensive!
